Syllabus

Syllabus for New Testament Survey

Taught at Servants Bible School, Vancouver, WA March 26 to May 24, 2012

This course is designed to give the knowledge, skills and resources to prepare one to be a competent student and well prepared teacher of the New Testament.

Course content

The course will teach the backgrounds in culture, history, and geography for the New Testament and its individual books. It will also survey in a systematic way the content of the New Testament and that of its individual books.

Class schedule

The class will meet Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
beginning March 26 and concluding May 24, 2012.

Student objectives

  • Read the entire New Testament compiling a chapter by chapter set of questions (at least 2 from each chapter) for future study. At each class, the student will turn in a copy of the chapter questions they have written, since the previous class.
    (Beginning: Thursday March 29 and concluding Monday: May 24 or until all 260 chapters have been turned in.)

  • Before reading each book of the New Testament, read and review the introductory material for each book of the New Testament found in Nelson’s Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts

  • Read New Testament Survey by Paul Benware - according to the schedule in the assignment table.

  • Each Monday evening, beginning April 2nd, a quiz on the previous week’s lecture and reading will be given (see schedule.) The final examination will be comprised of questions from these weekly examinations plus essay questions.

  • Memorize, in KJV, NKJV, NASB, NIV or ESV.

These are to be recited word perfect to a friend.

  • The 8 quizzes are 15% of the grade
  • The reading assignment in New Testament Survey is 10% of the grade
  • The New Testament Reading and Questions are 25% of the grade
  • The Scripture Memory Work is 10% of the grade
  • The Final examination is 40% of the grade

Grades are as follows: A = 90 to 100

B = 80 to 89

C = 70 to 79

D = 60 to 69
